The fourth-bulb composition leads to a slight pink hue especially in the lower-quality screen because the additional bulb is of red color.

Stability and reliability come with a price. We do agree that DIP technology is reliable, but it is also expensive. You will have to pay an additional cost in order to have a stable technology.


Advantages and Disadvantages of SMD Technology

The Lightweight of the screen is another advantage. Since it is not bulky or heavy, thus lifting it from one place to another is easier.

Due to easy installation and easy moving process, people prefer having SMD displays especially when they do not want something fixed.

The viewing angle of the screen is excellent. In comparison to DIP’s 110-degree viewing angle in the horizontal direction, the SMD display offers a 120-degree viewing angle in the same direction. The difference of 10 degree does make a great difference and thus a better impact.

The production process of SMD Outdoor LED signage is easier as well. Automatic machines conduct most of the production process. Automatic machines save labor cost and they can produce a large number of displays without incurring additional labor cost.




Like DIP screens, SMD screens also come with some negative points.

SMD displays require a high antistatic level. Higher the level, greater the complications!

The entire process is very difficult. The difficulty level is something that really turns the manufacturers off. In addition, the process cost is also very high.

SMD screens do offer high resolution and great picture quality, but at the same time, they do not run low on energy. The cost of great picture quality means a big spike in your energy bills.

Despite consuming more energy, the screens are not able to match the brightness level of a DIP screen. This is upsetting especially when you are planning to invest in SMD Outdoor LED signage.

Stability is a big problem for SMD screen. DIP having years of experience, does offer more reliability. SMD screens especially the larger size outdoor screens do have issues.

Yes, the manufacturers are working on them; however, it will take some time. After introducing the SMD5050 LED lamp into the market, the manufacturers faced several issues. The lamps did not work after the final installation.

Even now, the modern SMD screens including SMD2525, SMD2727, SMD2828, SMD3535 and SMD1921 did have issues initially, but with time, the market approved them. It seems now they are acceptable.

SMD does not have a longer shelf life, the manufacturers’ are working on this aspect of the screen, but we believe it will take some time. The life of an SMD screen is between 3 to 5 years, which is less in comparison to DIP long life.

Besides having a small shelf life, SMD screens also have a low brightness level. The maximum nits they can meet are 6500. So, if you plan to place the screen directly under the sun, we would vote against it.
